Your Previous Learning. Your Faster Pathway.

ACCELERATED AMERICAN HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA – TOP-UP PATHWAY

YOUR FUTURE. A GLOBAL OPPORTUNITY.

Programme Overview

The Accelerated / Top-Up Pathway is designed for learners who have already completed a substantial part of their secondary education and wish to complete the remaining requirements for an OCAHS American High School Diploma. It may be relevant to applicants presenting Grade 11, Form 5, CSEC or comparable secondary-school records. Entry labels from different national systems are not automatically equivalent; OCAHS determines placement from the actual academic documents.

Who Should Apply

  • Students who have completed Grade 11, Form 5 or a comparable stage of secondary education.
  • Applicants with CSEC or other external examination results.
  • Learners transferring from another high school with outstanding diploma requirements.
  • International students who have completed part of their secondary education in another education system.

Admission Requirements

The following is an indicative entry profile. Final admission, age requirements and placement are subject to current OCAHS policies.

  • Previous high-school transcript showing subjects, grades and credits earned.
  • CSEC or other external examination results, where applicable.
  • School report cards, completion certificates or leaving certificates, where available.
  • Passport or government-issued identification and proof of age.
  • Any additional documents or placement information requested by OCAHS.

Academic Evaluation and Credit Planning

OCAHS reviews the learner's prior courses, academic level, grades, course duration and supporting records to determine whether any credits can be transferred. OCAHS's published transfer-credit information has referred to full and half credits and a maximum of 17 transfer credits, subject to eligibility and evaluation. The student should receive a credit audit identifying accepted credits and the exact remaining graduation requirements.

How the study plan is confirmed
OCAHS should review the applicant's records and issue an individual academic evaluation showing accepted transfer credits, outstanding subjects, course sequence and estimated completion time. No transfer credit or completion date is guaranteed before this review.

Curriculum and Subject Areas

The following subjects are illustrative options for academic planning. The final courses, credit values and graduation requirements must be taken from the current OCAHS-approved catalogue and the student's individual graduation plan.

Subject Area Indicative Courses / Requirements
English Language Arts Outstanding English / Language Arts credits; composition; literature; communication
Mathematics Outstanding mathematics requirements, potentially Geometry, Algebra II or higher-level mathematics
Science Outstanding science requirements, potentially Biology, Chemistry, Physics or another approved science
Social Studies Outstanding history, government, civics or economics requirements
World Languages / Fine Arts / PE Any remaining graduation requirements in these areas
Electives Approved electives to complete the individual graduation plan; options may include technology, business, STEM or career subjects

Learning and Assessment

Learning is delivered through the OCAHS-approved online learning environment and course structure. OCAHS describes assessment activities that may include:

  • Online quizzes and knowledge checks
  • Written assignments, essays and analytical responses
  • Worksheets and guided online research / WebQuests
  • Journal or reflective submissions, where prescribed
  • Unit-based projects and applied learning activities
  • End-of-course examinations, where required

The final assessment components, grading scale, examination rules and course completion standards are governed by OCAHS's current academic regulations.

Duration and Completion

The earlier planning model used 9–10 months as a possible cohort planning period. It is not a guaranteed duration. Actual completion depends on credits accepted, remaining courses, course availability, learner pace and the OCAHS academic calendar.

Indicative duration
Approximately 9–10 months (planning estimate only; subject to transcript evaluation and OCAHS approval).

Progression Opportunities

After fulfilling all OCAHS graduation requirements, learners may apply to colleges, universities, foundation programmes or other post-secondary pathways. Admission and qualification recognition are determined by the receiving institution and relevant authorities.
