It's Never Too Late to Complete Your Education.
ADULT AND RETURNING LEARNER PATHWAY
YOUR FUTURE. A GLOBAL OPPORTUNITY.
Programme Overview
The Adult and Returning Learner Pathway is designed for adults who wish to resume formal education, complete secondary-level studies or obtain a high school diploma after an interruption in their education. The pathway uses the same applicable academic evaluation principles and graduation standards as the OCAHS diploma. It is not an automatic work-experience or prior-learning exemption route.
Who Should Apply
- Adults returning to education after a period away from formal study.
- Working professionals who need a flexible study arrangement.
- Applicants whose previous school records are incomplete or difficult to retrieve.
- Adult learners seeking to complete outstanding secondary-school credits.
Admission Requirements
The following is an indicative entry profile. Final admission, age requirements and placement are subject to current OCAHS policies.
- Adult applicants may apply subject to OCAHS's current admissions rules; the school's published FAQ has stated that there is no upper age limit.
- Available transcripts, report cards, examination results or homeschool records should be submitted for evaluation.
- Where transcripts are unavailable, applicants must follow the current OCAHS transcript-exemption or alternative documentation procedure, if eligible.
- OCAHS may request placement or readiness information.
- Passport or government-issued identification and any additional admission documents required by the school.
Academic Evaluation and Credit Planning
The primary route is review of documented high-school learning and transfer-credit eligibility. Work experience, professional training or informal learning may provide useful context for advising and course selection, but should not be represented as diploma credit unless OCAHS has a formally approved policy that explicitly permits it. Applicants without transcripts must follow OCAHS's current alternative documentation procedure. The resulting academic plan must identify all remaining diploma requirements.
How the study plan is confirmed
OCAHS should review the applicant's records and issue an individual academic evaluation showing accepted transfer credits, outstanding subjects, course sequence and estimated completion time. No transfer credit or completion date is guaranteed before this review.
Curriculum and Subject Areas
The following subjects are illustrative options for academic planning. The final courses, credit values and graduation requirements must be taken from the current OCAHS-approved catalogue and the student's individual graduation plan.
| Subject Area | Indicative Courses / Requirements |
|---|---|
| English Language Arts | English Language Arts, composition, literature and communication courses as assigned |
| Mathematics | Appropriate mathematics sequence, which may include Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II |
| Science | Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science or other approved courses as assigned |
| Social Studies | History, Government, Civics, Social Studies and Economics as required |
| World Languages / Arts / PE | Any required courses in these subject areas under the approved graduation plan |
| Electives | Approved options such as Digital Literacy, Computer Science, Business, Entrepreneurship, Psychology, STEM or career-related subjects |
Learning and Assessment
Learning is delivered through the OCAHS-approved online learning environment and course structure. OCAHS describes assessment activities that may include:
- Online quizzes and knowledge checks
- Written assignments, essays and analytical responses
- Worksheets and guided online research / WebQuests
- Journal or reflective submissions, where prescribed
- Unit-based projects and applied learning activities
- End-of-course examinations, where required
The final assessment components, grading scale, examination rules and course completion standards are governed by OCAHS's current academic regulations.
Duration and Completion
No fixed 12-month completion promise should be made before OCAHS has evaluated the applicant's academic history and remaining credit requirement. The duration is individualised according to accepted credits, course load, learner pace and approved study arrangements.
Indicative duration
Individualised duration based on transcript review, remaining credits and OCAHS approval.
Progression Opportunities
After satisfying all applicable diploma requirements, graduates may apply to universities, colleges, foundation programmes, professional or vocational education and other post-secondary opportunities. Admission and recognition remain subject to the receiving institution's rules.
